Throughout time, the wedding cake has always been a great tradition and a great centrepiece for every bride and grooms big day. Even Queen Victoria, who was married in 1840, made sure that her wedding cake was one that would be remembered through history. Her cake was three yards in circumference and weighed 300lbs – twice the average man! – and records show that the term ‘Royal icing’ was coined from the icing on the great Queen’s cake, which was said to have been as white as snow. The huge white wedding cake is still a tradition today, but there are a few new types of cake that have emerged on the scene over the last few years, such as cupcake towers and cake pops. They are so much fun and very pleasing to the eye, although you will have to be fast to the table if children are around! They will disappear in no time.
